My Entrepreneurship Story

A few months ago, I created a beauty Instagram. After several years of having friends telling me to post more makeup photos as well as having several other friends telling me that they're getting annoyed of all these beauty photos, I decided I would make an independent one just dedicated to beauty. Little did I know at the time how much that would change my life. Shortly after creating the blog and posting a few photos, some beauty companies recognized me and began to repost my photos on their own websites, increasing my number of followers and website traffic. Attached below is one of my Instagram beauty posts. After months of using my photos for their websites, they reached out to me with an interest to collaborate. At that moment, I realized that I was becoming an entrepreneur. Today, I have several collaborations with various companies; my most favorite one being with this startup makeup company that reached out to me to be the "face", or in this case "lips", of their brand new lipstick line. Up to now, all of this has simply been a hobby of mine but I am beginning to realize just how much I truly love and enjoy it. Enough so that I now have a goal to create my very own beauty line, which ties into why I chose this class. The reason I decided to take ENT 3003 is because I wish to gain more knowledge on how to truly embrace the entrepreneur in me that I just recently realized existed.

  1. Hey Evelyn,

I think it is awesome that you recently found and are embracing your entrepreneur spirit in you. It is great that your experience involves something that you actually love to do and you are not just chasing an opportunity to make money. I checked out your Instagram account and it is pretty amazing that you have gained almost 5k followers in just a few months. Unlike my experience, yours has a lot to do with the rise in technology and social media. My experience that I wrote about had to do with me walking door to door to get business but with social media, we can now create even more business just from our phones. Your experience shows that resources for becoming an entrepreneur are available for everyone and are sometimes right at our fingertips. Good luck with your future endeavors and congrats on the success of your profile.

  2. I like how you are taking a hobby and turning it into an entrepreneurial venture. It’s great that you can spend time doing something you enjoy while meeting needs of consumers and companies. Your picture looks great and shows that you are talented as well as creative. I also like that you are embracing the trends in social media. My entrepreneur experience was with a salon that I worked for. Similar to your experience we had to use social media to interact with potential consumers. I am also taking this class to further educate myself to open my own business someday. Good luck with getting your beauty line and maintaining strong relationships with other beauty companies.

  3. I think it's really great that something as simple as an instagram account, dedicated to something you are passionate about, has created such an entrepreneurial experience for you! Going forward, do you plan on transforming your brand into other forms of social media, such as youtube videos on makeup tutorials, clothes hauls, etc., or maybe even a blog or website? Also, how do you think this class has helped you so far in terms of embracing your inner-entrepreneur?
